Over the weekend I picked my biggest batch of tomatoes, herbs, and peppers yet!
I did a bit of cooking yesterday, and I’m tickled pink that I can use them in some of my favorite family recipes.
One is a simple goulash recipe that my husband loves from his childhood. There’s not much to it: Browned ground beef, chopped tomatoes, and elbow macaroni. Das it! He may add some seasoning, such as black pepper or Worcestershire sauce to it, but nothing else. Nada.
With what I picked this weekend I was able to get about 5-6 cups of fresh chopped tomatoes for the goulash. Splendid! As my husband told me once, “there’s no such thing as too many tomatoes in this recipe”. I guess he really likes tomatoes.
So far, the tomatoes planted in the Topsy Turvy are smaller than I thought they would be. Still, it’s fun to go grab a bunch. It’s fun to poke through the foliage and find the red treasures, too.
In looking at the picture below, can you spot the doggie nose? That tomato was nearly a goner. Just can’t take my eyes off the pups while in the garden. Ripe tomatoes are OK for dogs, but green ones are not.
