The first of the season’s flowers – Early tulips of yellow and red are of the large group of bulbs I planted in the fall 2008. Grape hyacinths show their repeat blooms year after year, and in greater numbers without fail. What a joy.
Fortunately, there are more tulips that will be blooming in the weeks to come. I’m so glad I planted these early blooming tulips to extend the color show for spring.

Andrea,
The tulips are beautiful as are the grape hyacinth. My tulips haven’t bloomed yet…but any day now! They aren’t in the sunniest location so they take a bit longer. However, I had several hyacinth (thought I’d transplanted elsewhere) come up and were so heavy with blooms. Luckily, I relieved their stems by snatching them and bringing them inside – their fragrance filled my home!
Happy digging!

oooohhhh….hyacinths! I keep meaning to plant a few for that great fragrance, but always end up forgetting about them. Did you get any snow in the storm last night? We got about 4 inches here and woke up having to shake off the trees for fear of more breakage.
It looks like the tulips are completely unaffected by the new snow. Yay! I’m looking forward to the rest of them blooming soon.
